“Yellow fever” fetish

Yuan Ren, Chinese writer lifts the lid on “yellow fever”: a myth that women in Asia make sexual lovers better than other women, at the same moment, having no meaningful presence in popular culture and politics.

Have you ever heard of a “yellow fever”? No, it isn’t the disease you may pick up during the travel to other countries. I am talking about the development of an acute sexual preference of Caucasian men for East Asian females – even becoming for some a fetish.

Of course, there are Asian dating sites dedicated to “serving” the males who have that yellow fever.

In fact, the recent figures from nearly 2.4 million members of Facebook dating app showed a clear incline in preference for females with East Asian descent by males of different racial groups, except, Asian males.

It was encountered a fair share of males with signs of yellow fever. But it is subtle, and naturally, few would admit surfing online dating websites for Asian women, yet when the only women they date are Asian, then the chances are in their favor.

It is a surprise, that British men, both old and young, commonly get away with when speaking about East Asian girls (Korean, Japanese, Chinese etc.) as well as women from The South East Asia (Thailand, Vietnam etc.)

“Sexually free”

The “nice Chinese girls” have an added bonus that they are far more open-minded sexually than Caucasian girls, they say.

One acquaintance told to me in astonishment that Chinese girls are really great in the bed – as if I was not one – to being incidentally asked if I would be interested in guys “who has been with Chinese woman and likes it”. I have been left puzzled by the lack of awareness and the insensitivity that such comments can cause offence. It is as if the Chinese are so foreign it does not count.

In the UK a 26-year-old British Chinese student Sherry Fang tells me that she is had some strangers say to her “you look like his ex, she was Chinese also”, and argues it’d be wholly inappropriate when she were Indian or black.

In Britain, while considerable rates of marriage between the white Caucasian and Chinese population have displayed social integration, the tendency is nevertheless heavily inclined towards white men and Chinese women, rather than other ways around.
