The second most popular way to meet potential partners in Australia
Online dating is the second most effective meeting method – report
MEETING a potential partner at a nightclub isn’t appealing to individuals aged 35-45, which would be one reason why an Australian online dating site reports half of its users are in that age group.
Preliminary results of the Date of the Nation Report of the 5th annual RSVP today were released, showing that 17 percent of Australians who have utilized online dating have entered a de facto relationship or got married as a result.
The Nation Report 2014 of the RSVP Date shows that if it comes to meeting partners, online dating sits in the number 2 position behind introductions via family or friends.
“Introductions and matches through friends and family is an established social custom that has been around for centuries however in less than 20 years, online dating has established itself as the second most popular way to meet potential partners in Australia,” said Melanie Dudgeon, RSVP Spokesperson.
The Report 2012 showed that online dating was the 5th most preferred place to meet a potential partner.
In two years, online dating has jumped ahead to the second most preferred way for single Australians.
In 2014, online dating is preferred over meeting new partners through interest based clubs, while travelling or on holiday, at bars or pubs, via social networking websites or forums and through work.
“When we look back at the online dating history of Australia, 35 to 45 year olds members have been our strongest demographic, but today, the under 35′s represent more than 50% of our membership,” Ms Dudgeon said.
“Younger Australian folks have grown up with the Web and for those under 35, online dating whether it be white or black dating has been a part of the social landscape of their entire adult life and it is a common way to find a new mate.”
The RSVP Date of the Nation Report 2014 says -
•57% of Australian single people think online dating is a main way of finding new people
•64% of single Australians would consider online dating or have used it
•52% of single Australians would suggest online dating to others seeking to find new people
“Online dating is very popular because it gives an opportunity to meet new partner outside of your existing network who are interested in relationships and dating,” Ms Dudgeon commented.
